5 Day throwing/salt-glazed stoneware: Jeremy Steward

summer pottery course salt-glaze 2008This course invites a larger number of students, split into two groups and separate making workshops for hand-building or throwing. It replaces the 7 day combined making & salt-firing workshops of previous years.

The course invites experienced makers to develop specific areas of their production. Decoration and experimentation will form an important part of the course, the groups joining together to explore a variety of techniques including slip-resist, finger-wiping, simple brushwork, pouring and print-making onto pots. Slips and raw-glazing will be directly linked to salt-glaze.

The throwing studio invites a maximum of 8 students for this course. Each participant will enjoy unlimited access to a power wheel for the full duration. These are a selection of different models; Rayefco, Alsager and Shimpo.

The course begins at 10am on the first morning, completing at 4pm on the last day. Tuition hours are otherwise 9am – 5pm. Morning and afternoon refreshments are included in the price of this course along with our home-baked sourdough loaves for lunch. Students will be asked to bring along a small lunchtime savoury dish to share. The course fee also includes a pizza evening on Friday 13th where students will be invited to make and wood-fire their own pizza.
