5 Day hand-building/salt-glazed stoneware: Nigel Lambert
This course invites a larger number of students, split into two groups and separate making workshops for hand-building or throwing. It replaces the 7 day combined making & salt-firing workshops of previous years.
The course invites experienced makers to develop specific areas of their hand-building production. Nigel will be working with the construction of asymmetrical shapes; ovaling, triangulating, squaring and other multi-surfaced forms.
These slab-built stoneware pots will subsequently form the canvas for experimental decoration, where the group will explore a variety of techniques including resist, finger-wiping, brushwork, pouring and print-making onto pots. Slips and raw-glazing will be directly linked to salt-glaze.
The hand-building studio invites a maximum of 5 students for this course.
The course begins at 10am on the first morning, completing at 4pm on the last day. Tuition hours are otherwise 9am – 5pm. Morning and afternoon refreshments are included in the price of this course along with our home-baked sourdough loaves for lunch. Students will be asked to bring along a small lunchtime savoury dish to share. The course fee also includes a pizza evening on Friday 13th where students will be invited to make and wood-fire their own pizza.
