3 day plaster/mould-making: improvers 2013!
New to the 2011 programme, Wobage was delighted to invite internationally acclaimed designer-maker Tavs Jorgensen, for this plaster mould-making workshop. The output was focused on the creation of ‘hump’moulds for slab-building and forming and what a fantastic and enjoyable time was had by all.
The improvers course following on from this 2011 workshop is scheduled for the Summer of 2013. Booking will not be made available for this course until Autumn 2012. Moving forward from the plaster sledging, profiling and mould making which students worked on in 2011, this course will cover more advanced plaster techniques. It will be an opportunity for returning students to work on specific projects and to return to aspects of profiling and mould-making which we did not have sufficient time for in the beginners course. The course will be extended from 2 to 3 days in duration. Once again, each participant will end up with their own set of plaster model and mould to take home.
The course is suitable for all levels of ability and will cover a wide range of ‘tricks of the trade’. Tavs will also make a presentation illustrating his career as designer-maker and his wider application of plaster and associated technologies in ceramic production. More information about Tavs, along with images illustrating his production past and present, can be found on his own website. Tavs’ exploration of digital manufacturing technologies, is a creative process of designing and making three dimensional objects shared by a team of artists known as Autonomatic.
The price of the course includes all materials along with the models and moulds that students make during the course. Paricipants will be asked to bring along their own basic set of small hand-tools. Although this course is completely independant from any other, it has been specifically designed as an accompaniment to Patia’s slip-decoration course. Any students wishing to participate in both courses, will be able to use their newly made hump moulds during the slip course.
The studio invites a maximum of 8 students for this course. The course begins at 3pm on Friday afternoon, completing at 4pm on Sunday. Tuition hours are otherwise 9am – 5pm. Home-made vegetarian lunches along with morning and afternoon refreshments are included in the price of this course.
